NSDC to hold events in
Canberra and Sydney
for National Sorry Day 2012
Canberra
On Friday 25 May, the National Sorry Day Committee will work with ACT Government Health, Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health Service, and Reconciliation Australia to organise a special National Sorry Day Bridge Walk in Canberra across Commonwealth Avenue Bridge.
Bridge walkers are encouraged to gather at Regatta Point at 10.30am on the morning of Friday 25 May, where inspirational key note speeches will be delivered byTom Calma – Co Chair of Reconciliation Australia - among others.
After a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, the actual walk across Commonwealth Avenue Bridge will begin at 11am. Walkers will then return to Regatta Point where a lunch will be served as the Wiradjuri Echoes perform.

On Saturday 26 May, the National Sorry Day Committee will be organising a National Sorry Day Community Lunch and Memorial Event at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture in Canberra from 12pm to 3pm.
The event will provide the local community with an opportunity to come together and share in the commemoration and remembrance of the Stolen Generations and to reflect on the importance of healing, justice and reconciliation.
The event will feature performances by the Stiff Gins and the Wiradjuri Echoes, as well as a healthy and warming complimentary lunch.

Sydney
National Sorry Day Committee will also appear at the Seymour Centre, Sydney, during the evening on National Sorry Day (Saturday 26 May) to raise awareness of the organisation's work and to commemorate National Sorry Day as the Seymour Centre presents 'Bindjareb Pinjarra' - a brilliant improvised comedy about the Pinjarra Massacre that took place in Western Australia in 1834. Created and performed by Nyoongar and Wadjella (whitefella) actors, Bindjareb Pinjarra is comical and heartfelt, illustrating how black and white Australians are all part of the same history, and demonstrating a fusion of history, outrageous comedy and physical theatre.
The production has been touring Australia for the past 15 years and has received excellent reviews (http://www.ravemagazine.com.au/content/view/21398/).
National Sorry Day Committee will hold an information stand and will encourage the audience to sign a Pledge Book in the theatre foyer during the course of the evening.
The Boomalli Aboriginal Arts Cooperative will also present an arts exhibition on the night.
The performance of Bindjareb Pinjarra will begin at 7.30pm and will be preceded by a Welcome to Country and a keynote speech from National Sorry Day Committee non Indigenous Co Chair Sally Fitzpatrick and National Sorry Day Committee Executive Committee Member Michael West.
